Visit The MagicPrefs Homepage homebrew (Free) MagicPrefs Lets you define custom gestures for MacBook’s Trackpad, Magic Trackpad or Magic Mouse. Luckily for me, during one of my visits over my friends at Carambola, Roey Yaniv saved my sanity and showed me a solution named MagicPrefs. I felt like a crazy person when moving from my Magic Mouse back to my MacBook’s Trackpad due to the lack of gesture consistency. here is a free collection of some that I found very useful (for my taste, the two “if” “fi” commands alone were worth purchasing the PowerPack) Workflows are custom commands that can automate just about anything - you can write ones yourselves or just tap to a wide range of existing ones. While the free version doesn’t really offer much more than a fancier spotlight search, the PowerPack is a completely different story and well worth it’s price.Īside from searching files and launching apps, Alfred enables automation by a notion called “Workflows”. Keep in mind that this is a list of tools for power users and developers, that the everyday joe would find completely useless. I say, go for it, and let us know in comments how it works for you.I’ve been a windows power user in the last twenty five years, but decided to purchase a macbook pro as my new computer.ĭuring the last few months, I found some tools I believe every power user and especially a developer should use when moving to a mac and decided to share with future and existing mac owners. The price is very, very right, and the app fixes a lot of the weaknesses in the Magic Mouse. The developer says the app will eventually wind up as a preference pane, and that it will always remain free. ![]() If yours was a dog with your Apple hardware, this app may fix all that. For people who have a Magic Mouse that works great, you will love the power of this app. There is even a real time display on the app that lets you test different combinations of motions to see how they will work. Some of the gestures are a bit difficult and take some practice, and the app warns you which ones might be tricky. You can create, load and save presets as well. Pre-defined actions include control of Spaces, Dashboard, Expose, Quicklook and many others. You can even define drag and pinch movements on the surface of the mouse. You can define two and three finger swipes for left, right, up and down. Also to one, two, three and four finger taps. This little utility allows you to assign actions to two, three and 4 finger clicks. This app goes way beyond fixing the tracking speed. MagicPrefs is a free utility that runs from your menu bar and fixes the problems some Mac Pros had with the Magic Mouse. I put the mouse on my shelf of forgotten tech until a friend told me about MagicPrefs. On my Mac Pro the tracking was erratic, slow, and pretty unusable. When I actually went to use it, however, it was a major downer. I was one of the many who was pretty excited when I heard about it and grabbed one the first week it was out.
